Montreat Battles Back To Defeat Milligan in Five; Stays Undefeated in AAC

Last night the Montreat College Lady Cavaliers proved that though they are young, their drive and determination are something not to be ignored. After defeating highly touted UVA-Wise last week, the Lady Cavs traveled to Johnson City, TN last night to face AAC foe Milligan College.

Montreat came back from an early deficit to pull out a huge win against the Buffs taking them to 2-0 in AAC play. Montreat fell down early, going behind two games to none. However, their fight and determination came through to upset Milligan in the final three games to pull out the victory: 21-25, 10-25, 25-19, 26-24, and 15-9. Brandy Deddo (FR, Almond, NC) enjoyed a big game having the highest kill efficiency, 18 digs, and four aces. Last week’s conference setter of the week, Natalie Nieman (FR, Charlotte, NC) added 32 assists.

Montreat joins Bluefield College and the top of the AAC leaderboard at 2-0.  Bluefield was the only program to receive lower preseason poll points than Montreat.  The Lady Cavs are at home Thursday night at McAlister Gymnasium against North Greenville in a 7:00pm start.  The team will be on the road Friday and Saturday in AAC play against Covenant and Bryan.  Montreat returns home on Tuesday, September 16 to face Bluefield College.

Coach Mooberry was short and sweet after the game saying, “We started out playing very inconsistent, but the girls pulled together to pull out a tough win.”
