Period Drama at the Manor House
Local actor Matt Lutz returns to North Carolina to perform for the Montreat Professional Theatre Series in "Last Train to Nibroc" by Arlene Hutton. Known to audiences for his roles in the films A Walk to Remember, Bringing Down the House, and End of the Spear, Matt is a 1997 graduate of Charles D. Owen High School in Black Mountain, N.C.
Lutz has been living and working as an actor in New York and Los Angeles since 2001. His wife Christy, also a professional actress, will be performing opposite him. The production is directed by Callan White.
LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC is a beautiful and simple Appalachian wartime romance that takes place in 1940. Love blooms between two Kentucky natives, May and Raleigh, who find themselves on a cross-country train carrying the coffins of famed writers Nathanael West and F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Associated Press calls LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC "…a gently charming little play, reminiscent of Thornton Wilder in its look at rustic Americans who are to be treasured for their simplicity and directness…". And the New York Times says "You could easily enjoy another few hours of this."
Performances will be April 24-26 at 8:00 p.m. in the Manor House on the Black Mountain campus. Tickets are $10; for reservations, call 828-669-8012, ext. 2278.
