Perspectives about Montreat College...

I came to Montreat in January from Odessa, Ukraine. What brought me to the States is the humanitarian work I have been doing during past years, working as a translator and inter-country coordinator for a non-profit organization called Frontier Horizon, based in Virginia Beach, VA, which provides services for orphaned kids in Ukraine and Nicaragua, including hosting programs allowing Nicaraguan and Ukrainian at-risk children to experience healthy family life in U.S. homes.
Having come with the kids, I decided to get my education in the States and bring the gained knowledge back home to make improvements in my country. I heard about Montreat from my friend Karissa, whose step-mother does a lot of work in Ukraine.
She invited me to go with her and her parents to check this beautiful college in the mountains. We both fell in love with it and decided to go here. Montreat College is a great and secure place to be. Everybody is so friendly and caring. The family atmosphere is comforting—there are no strangers, but family members.

I’m a Fashion and Textiles student from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. I gained a scholarship beginning August 2006, to study Business for two semesters at Montreat College. I chose to apply for the scholarship because I wanted to add some business studies to my degree and to be a student in another country. Montreat is a lot smaller than my home college, but I have really enjoyed being in the small community. I have made friends here that I will never forget, and I’ve also had some great teachers that have made a huge impact on me. I’m so glad that I came to study in the U.S. and especially glad that my college experience was at Montreat; this area in North Carolina is so beautiful, the learning definitely goes beyond the classroom.
