Knowing Yourself...Unearthing Your Talents
- Examine the things that you have done. Look at the things that you have accomplished that you felt that you did well, and that you got a great sense of joy or satisfaction from. Career counseling is an excellent place to do this.
- Prayerfully engage in life and different activities to find further what you are interested in and good at. You can map out a plan with the Career Counselor.
- Make an appointment with the Career Counselor to take and talk through interest and skill assessments.
- Keep in mind that seeking to know God better, through an honest relationship with Jesus Christ, leads to a deeper and more genuine knowledge of yourself.
Know Your Opportunities...Investing Your Talents
- Take your General Education classes first, to get exposure to different fields of study/career areas.
- Talk to the faculty in the different departments and find out what the career opportunities are in those fields.
- Get a summer job in the area that interests you. You can gain information of and experience in that field.
- Informational interviewing: interview professionals in the field you are interested in.
- Internship: get one that really relates to what you want to do.
- Consider graduate school: Is it a must for your field? Would it be helpful?
