Knowing Yourself...Unearthing Your Talents

  • Examine the things that you have done. Look at the things that you have accomplished that you felt that you did well, and that you got a great sense of joy or satisfaction from. Career counseling is an excellent place to do this.

  • Prayerfully engage in life and different activities to find further what you are interested in and good at. You can map out a plan with the Career Counselor.

  • Make an appointment with the Career Counselor to take and talk through interest and skill assessments.

  • Keep in mind that seeking to know God better, through an honest relationship with Jesus Christ, leads to a deeper and more genuine knowledge of yourself.

Know Your Opportunities...Investing Your Talents

  • Take your General Education classes first, to get exposure to different fields of study/career areas.

  • Talk to the faculty in the different departments and find out what the career opportunities are in those fields.

  • Get a summer job in the area that interests you. You can gain information of and experience in that field.

  • Informational interviewing: interview professionals in the field you are interested in.

  • Internship: get one that really relates to what you want to do.

  • Consider graduate school: Is it a must for your field? Would it be helpful?
