Tony Horning

Dr. Tony C. Horning is an Assistant Professor of Education at Montreat College. He teaches Education courses in both the traditional undergraduate programs on the Montreat campus and courses in the School of Professional Adult Studies on the Asheville campus. He has been at the college since 2006. He and his wife Jane have two children, Jacob and Elizabeth.

In the classroom, Dr. Horning's teaching style is highly Socratic. He strives to understand the "Why?" behind all of his students' opinions and answers.

When asked why he cares so deeply about teaching and education, he says, "I care about people who strive to grow and improve themselves, especially when there are forces at play which continuously work against those people."

His life verse is Galatians 2:20:

"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

Dr. Horning holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, a M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership.
