Debbie Presnell

Debbie Presnell is an Assistant Professor of Education at Montreat College who honed her teaching skills for 25 years before beginning her work at Montreat in Autumn of 2008.

Driven by a passion for teaching, Mrs. Presnell is determined to “help teacher candidates fulfill their purpose by becoming the best teacher they can be,” evincing in that statement a belief that teachers are called to their work.  She challenges her students by presenting them with lectures, discussion, hands-on activities, and projects.

When not teaching, she enjoys reading, writing articles, creating and teaching Bible studies, cooking, and having coffee with girlfriends.

Drawn to the beauty of our mountains, Mrs. Presnell bikes, hikes, walks, and runs – at least one of these every day!  She and Alan, her husband of 24 years, have two daughters, one son, and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Presnell took a B.S. in Elementary Education from Gardner-Webb University and earned an M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Western Carolina University, a degree which took several years to acquire while she simultaneously taught full-time in the Asheville City School system.  After sixteen years teaching at McDowell Technical Community College, Mrs. Presnell began her career at Montreat in 2008.
