Outdoor Education professor Dr. Brad Daniel recently published an article entitled “Learn from My Mistakes: Using a Dialectical Approach for Training Outdoor Teachers” in the winter issue of Green Teacher journal. In the dialectical approach Dr. Daniel describes in his article, the trainer models a poorly taught lesson, works with the students to identify the mistakes made, and provides solutions for correcting those mistakes. The video skit below stages an outdoor education classroom “gone wrong”-- the starting point for training educators how to teach more effectively in outdoor settings.
