The Communications Office manages the communication and marketing of the college both internally and externally, serving the College through numerous avenues.
Event Promotion
The Communications Office can assist in promote College events through the website, e-blasts, and local media outlets. For larger events, contact the Communications Office as soon as the event is scheduled for targeted, strategic publicity planning.
Institutional Publications
The Communications Office produces the following college publications: Reflection magazine, the Annual Report, and This Fall and This Spring at Montreat College. Check out the bookshelf below to view a sample of these publications.
Print Publications
The Communications Office completes over 80 print projects each year. To put in a work request, please submit specifications of the project through our Communications Job Request tool; include size, colors, number of copies, type of paper, whether it is printed in-house or outsourced, and deadlines. For larger projects, please set up a time to meet with the Communications team so we can intentionally plan the creative direction of the project, as well as discuss specifications, deadlines, and budget. Due to resource limitations, the Communications Office may direct you to an outside design vendor to complete your project.
If printing a project outside of the Communications Office, please use the following paper in order to promote consistency with all college print pieces.
For regular projects, use Lynx Opaque:
- 100 lb opaque text for brochures
- 80 lb opaque cover for postcards
For higher quality projects, use Cougar:
- 100 lb vellum text for brochures
- 80 lb vellum cover for postcards
In order to uphold our environmental stewardship values, we strongly recommend FSC certification for all print pieces. Use the FSC logo when printed on FSC-certified paper (the printer will provide this for you). If the piece is not printed on FSC-certified paper, but is recycled, use the recyling logo provided under Logos and Templates.
Media Relations
Through strong media relationships, the Communications Office seeks to publicize the College in the local media outlets. If you have a story idea, please contact the Communications Director at acarlson@montreat.edu. All press releases can be sent to the Communications Director as well. Please view the College’s Media Relations Policy to understand how to handle media requests and to learn tips for dealing with the media. If you are approached by the media for an interview, contact the Communications Office before proceeding.
Web Content Management
Through a decentralized content management system, the Communications Office approves content updates across the website. For new webpages, changes in webpage design, and reorganization of navigation, the Communications Office with work in collaboration with the IT department to meet your needs.
Photography
The Communications Office maintains an extensive photo archive that can be accessed through our media server. Contact the Communications Office for a username and password. Social Media
Social media are powerful communication tools that Montreat College departments can utilize to engage and build relationships with target audiences. Because of social media’s interactive nature, consistent, strategic management is critical for the reputation of the College. If you are interested in setting up a new social media account, complete the Social Media Account Application and submit to the Communications Office for approval. Also, review the College’s Social Media Policy before engaging with College social media platforms.
Internal Communication
Every two weeks, the Communications Office releases Pivot Points, an internal email about organizational updates and initiatives.
Advertising
Contact the Communications Office for assistance with creating and placing advertising.
Signage
Contact the Communications Office for creation of new signs or banners. Please read the Town of Montreat Sign Ordinance before hanging banners or posting signs outdoors in Montreat. Both Montreat and Black Mountain require sign permits. Complete and submit a Town of Montreat Sign Permit to the Town of Montreat before posting signs or banners; it will cost $10. Complete and submit a Town of Black Mountain Sign Permit for Black Mountain signs; they require a $50 deposit and will refund once signs are removed.
