Academic Program Statistics
Since 78 out of 102 (76.5%) assessment criteria were met in 2009-10, there is evidence that student learning outcomes are being achieved across academic programs.
During this past academic year, advances in academic achievement were evident with the growing number of students named to the honor rolls in the School of Arts and Sciences. Over 200 students were acknowledged on the Dean’s List (3.5 to 3.89 GPA) for each semester in 2009-2010. 106 and 76 students made the Distinguished Scholars List (3.9 to 4.0 GPA) for the fall and spring semesters during the past academic year.
The largest graduating class over the past decade (394 students for December 2009 and May 2010 Commencements) completed degree requirements at Montreat College.
Faculty writings resulted in 54 publications during this academic year. Ninety scholarly presentations were made at regional, national, and international conferences. This is a remarkable achievement for a small teaching faculty.
The percent of faculty holding the terminal degree is 80.5%, which is very favorable in comparison to our peers.
A vast majority of students gave courses and instructors very high satisfaction ratings in 2009-10.
100% of seniors in ten of the eleven programs reporting in 2009-10 expressed being very or moderately satisfied with the educational preparation they received in their programs.
In fall 2009, the college saw an increase in the overall institutional retention rate to 74%, up by 2% over the previous academic year. The first-time freshman retention rate increased by 6%, up to 64.7%.
Undergraduate Student-Faculty Ratio = 11:1 in fall 2009:
- Student to Faculty Ratio for All ACA colleges = 13.7 to 1; IPEDS Peer Group = 13:1
- U.S. News & World Report states, “11-to-1 faculty-to-student ratio is one of the most favorable ratios among CCCU schools.”
Course success rates in the School of Arts and Sciences for both semesters in 2009-10 were around 89%.
